Domain name frequent questions

Registration of domain

Common errors

  • Error Incorrect Company name (during the registration): You can remove any “special characters” such as ‘, “, or , from the Company Name field.
  • Error Auth code is wrong (in email sent for the domain verification): This can happen for several reasons. To fix this, please contact our Support Team via our chatbot Webby (blue messaging bubble on the bottom right of your screen).
  • After you register a domain, you need to verify your email address via a link sent to you by email. If you’re not receiving it (and it’s not in your spam folder), it might be caused by the type of email provider you’re using (for example: Yahoo, t-online.de, etc.). If possible, use another address such as Gmail or outlook.com, and resend the verification mail via your domain dashboard or contact our Support Team via our chatbot Webby (blue messaging bubble on the bottom right of your screen).

Country-specific exceptions

  • .dk: Once your domain is registered, you need to activate it within 4 days:
    • The registry will email you your username and PIN.

    • Log in to https://self-service.punktum.dk/ using your username and PIN.

    • Find your domain in the list, click aktiver domænenavnet, and confirm activation on the following pages.

  • .es: If you get an “Invalid Company number” error for trying to register a .es (Spain) and you are a FreeLancer, please leave "Company name" field empty to validate the registration.
  • .no: If you register as a private individual, you need an N.PRI.XXXXXXXX number. Request it from the registry here: https://pid.norid.no/personid/personid. Add it in the Passport/ID number field along with your Social Security number.
  • SCAND (.dk, .se, .no, .fi): If your domain contains special characters, you need a “punycode” version, which you can generate here: https://www.punycoder.com/.
    Example: webadør.dkxn--webadr-fya.dk.
This also applies to invalid addresses or names.

Transfer/Link a domain name TO Webador

TRANSFER DOMAIN TO WEBADOR

  • Standard transfer
    • For a standard transfer, start the transfer using a transfer code (also called an auth code or EPP code).
  • Country specific transfer exceptions
    • .be: If your .be transfer fails, check with your current domain provider if they also use Open Provider. If yes, you’ll need an internal transfer code from them.
    • .com.au: You will first need to give their consent before requesting the transfer. Please contact our Support Team via our chatbot Webby (blue messaging bubble on the bottom right of your screen).

      Subject: Domain Transfer Authorization
I, [Full Name], in my role as [Job Title] at ABCD COMPANY (ABN: 11111111111),
the registrant of the domain xyz.com.au, hereby authorize the transfer of this domain to Openprovider.
I confirm that I am authorized to act on behalf of the registrant and approve this transfer request.
      Signed:
[Signature], [Full Name], [Job Title], [Date]

    • .com: A .com domain less than 60 days old cannot be transferred. You’ll need to wait until the period ends, but you can link it to Webador in the meantime.
    • .dk: Once you requested the transfer, the name servers must be updated from the self-service panel on the following page: Punktum dk self-service - Log in to self-service by including all the following name servers:
      nserver: ns1.openprovider.nl
      nserver: ns2.openprovider.be
      nserver: ns3.openprovider.eu
    • .es: Once requested, you must validate the transfer by email. Full steps: Transferir un dominio .es a Webador.
    • .uk or .co.uk: Domains in .uk don’t have a transfer code, the customer needs to:
      • 1. start the transfer on our side
      • 2. ask your current domain provider to change the IPS tag to REGISTRAR-EU
    • SCAND (.dk, .se, .no, .fi): If the domain uses "special characters", you need a "special" domain you can obtain here: https://www.punycoder.com/. For example: webadør.dk should be xn--webadr-fya.dk for the transfer request.

Same goes for invalid addresses and names.

Transfer/Link a domain name AWAY from Webador

TRANSFER AWAY FROM WEBADOR

  • Standard transfer
    • The customer can request the transfer code by following the steps in this article. For the next steps, they can contact their new provider.
  • Country specific transfer exceptions
    • .be: If your transfer fails, check with your new provider if they use Open Provider. If yes, request via support@webador.com an internal transfer code.
    • .com: Some domains such as .com have a 60 days lock after a transfer or registration. This means you need to wait until this period is over before a transfer is possible.
    • .es: to obtain the transfer code, you can request it by reaching out to our support team via our chatbot Webby (blue messaging bubble on the bottom right of your screen).
    • .online: to obtain the transfer code, you can request it by reaching out to our support team via our chatbot Webby (blue messaging bubble on the bottom right of your screen).
    • .uk: to transfer away, you first need to request the IPS tag from your new provider. You will then be able to use it to request the transfer via My subscription > Domains > Transfer. All the steps can be found in this article.

LINK TO ANOTHER PROVIDER

  • We don’t allow name servers (NS) changes to link to another provider. Exceptionally, when a domain cannot yet be transferred away (for example a .com is less than 60 days), you request by reaching out to our support team via our chatbot Webby (blue messaging bubble on the bottom right of your screen) to change NS. Don’t forget: you will need to transfer the domain name away before the domain renewal date (in case of cancellation, the domain won’t be renewed).
  • To link your Webador domain to WIX:

A Record - Host: @ (or leave blank)
    Value: 185.230.63.107

    CNAME Record:
    Host: www
    Value: pointing.wixdns.net
  • In some cases, other website builders don’t accept transfers. For those cases, we suggest transferring the domain name to another provider so that you can link the domain name to your new website builder. An early release of the domain so that you can register the domain name again with them is not possible.

Failed domain

If a domain registration or transfer has failed, contact us via our chatbot Webby (blue messaging bubble on the bottom right of your screen) before attempting a new transfer or registration.

Note: Trying again without this step will not create a new attempt, but therefore use the failed status from the previous attempt.

Domain not active/working

If a domain isn’t showing as active or isn’t working properly, there are a few common things to check.

General checks

  • DNS Settings: Make sure you haven’t changed the DNS records of the domain (My subscription > Domains > Modify DNS). Incorrect or missing records can cause the domain to stop working. You can Restore all defaults, if you made any modifications to it.

Please note: It can take up to 48 hours for manual DNS changes to take effect.

Country-specific checks

  • .be (Belgium): You can check the status of .be domains through DNS Belgium. This site shows whether the domain needs a verification (see line “Verification status”). If the status is “Pending”, you should contact DNS Belgium at verification@dnsbelgium.be.
  • .ch (Switzerland): After registering a .ch domain, the owner may be asked to verify their ID via an email sent by the registry.
    • If the email wasn't received or the verification wasn't completed, the domain won’t go live.
    • You can contact the registry at registry@nic.ch to request the verification email again or get help.

Email not working

  • Check if DNS has been changed: Verify whether you have recently modified your DNS records. Changes to DNS settings can disrupt email services.
  • Check if domain is active: Ensure the domain is still active and hasn’t expired or been suspended. If the domain is inactive, your email will not function.
  • Use the “Check DNS” button: Click the Check DNS button in the support tool. This will show if the required email-related DNS records are present and properly set up.
Please note: It can take up to 48 hours for manual DNS changes to take effect.

If the records are missing or incorrect, you will need to restore or update your DNS settings at your domain registrar. If everything looks fine and email still isn’t working, contact us via our chatbot Webby (blue messaging bubble on the bottom right of your screen).

Update my information

Update your info via My subscription first, then notify us through our chatbot Webby (blue messaging bubble on the bottom right of your screen).

  • .be: For company/owner name changes, also send the transfer code.

Country-specific

  • .be: for company name/owner name changes, request a transfer code through our chatbot Webby (blue messaging bubble on the bottom right of your screen).

Where is my domain name registered, and what is its status?

You can check where the domain name is by using the 'Whois' feature. Under Registrar, if you see Hosting Concepts (or Hosting Concepts B.V. d/b/a Openprovider), this means the domain name is with Open Provider (and potentially with Webador).

You can for example use:

who.is

https://www.whois.com/whois/

You can also check this with the 'Whois' feature per extension directly. In some cases, you can get more information.
For example, for .be, you can see if a verification is needed or for .uk, you can see if it has been suspended.
