How do I incorporate search terms or keywords on my website?

In order to be found in search engines such as Google, for example, keywords are an important part of this. In fact, keywords are an influential part of SEO and the findability of your website.

But what exactly are keywords, and how can you use them on your website?
We would like to explain this to you.

What are keywords?

Keywords, also called “keywords” or “terms,” are words that people use to find information through search engines. For example, if you are looking for “shower foam,” this is a keyword you enter into the search engine.

So it is significant to find out what words, keywords, you want to be found with your company or website.

The keywords you want to be found with, should be used a lot on your website. Think about the title elements of your pages, headers, but also text elements. Don't forget to include these words in the SEO settings of your pages.

The use of keywords

It is important to use specified search terms.

Example: A page title like “About us” doesn't say much, nor is it specific enough to be found with.
A title like “About Coco's Bakery in San Francisco” says much more. In this example, you already include the search terms Coco's Bakery in San Francisco in your page title.

Search engines use the headings of websites to crawl (read) them. In our tool, we have set the Header element as a default H1 text. That means search engines pick this up as the most important text on that page.
In this way, they scan your website with search terms from the headers to make your website findable on them.

Please note: It is critical that you use only 1 header element per page. After all, you want to indicate what the most important text is on that page, and there is only one.

Tips for using keywords on your website

  • Use hyperlinks and anchor links:
Search engines consider website linking critical to determining whether or not a website is important. For example, incorporate your keywords into anchor links. With an anchor link, you create a reference to a piece of text further down your page.
Example: If you mention at the top of your page that you offer a course and come back to it later, you can turn the text “I also offer three-day dog behavior courses in Amsterdam” into an anchor link. This then points to that part of your page where you have, for example, a form element for registering for the course.
  • Deploy tools for determining your keywords:
To help you get started with your keywords and the findability of your website, we always recommend linking to Google Search Console. This will also give you an overview of the most significant keywords used by your visitors.
You can also request a scan of your website through Ubersuggest, which will help you on your way with determining your keywords.
  • Optimize SEO settings for your pages:
In your page settings, you can write titles and short texts for your pages. People will see these when they see your website on Google, for example. Think of catchy texts, inviting a visitor to click on your website.
